Home      HLF Bid

The bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People programme really is the opportunity of a lifetime for South Cliff Gardens. If successful it would mean around £6 million investment into the gardens, along with improved management and increase use. It would bring the life back to the gardens.

The bid will be made in 2 stages:

Stage 1 – Outline proposals, submitted end of August 2016. The HLF announced our bid was successful on January 9th, so the funds have been reserved subject to success in stage 2.

The stage 1 bid was drawn up by a partnership of the Friends of South Cliff Gardens, Scarborough Borough Council, Groundwork, Oobe and other interested parties.
Stage 2 –  More detailed plans are drawn up and submitted in February 2018 with a decision in June 2018. If the stage 2 bid is successful then work could start in early 2019.
In May 2017 Victoria Thompson was appointed by SBC as the new HLF Project Officer for the South Cliff Gardens. So we will start on stage two of our Heritage Lottery bid to bring new life to our beautiful Gardens.
